Workshop1
Halal Pharmaceuticals in Clinical Pharmacy: From Ingredients to Patient Care
by Halal Education and Training Unit (HEd2U) USM

Halal considerations are increasingly relevant to patient-centred pharmaceutical care, particularly when patients have concerns about medication ingredients and their halal status. This interactive workshop introduces the fundamental principles of halal pharmaceuticals and explores common pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients that may present halal concerns, including gelatin, glycerin, enzymes, fatty acid derivatives, and alcohol-containing preparations. Participants will be guided on the importance of ingredient sources, manufacturing processes, cross-contamination, and halal certification. Through case-based discussions and interactive activities, the workshop will demonstrate how pharmacists can identify halal-related concerns, verify relevant information, communicate effectively with patients, and consider appropriate alternatives while maintaining medication safety, efficacy, and quality.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to recognise potential halal issues in pharmaceutical products and apply a practical, patient-centred approach to addressing halal medication concerns in clinical pharmacy practice.

Workshop 2
Transforming DMTAC Practice: From Clinical Insights to Hands-On Skills
by Malaysia Ministry of Health

Discover how Diabetes Mellitus Therapy Adherence Clinic (DMTAC) can evolve beyond medication adherence to deliver impactful, patient-centred diabetes care. This interactive pre-conference workshop explores how pharmacists can strengthen their role in delivering effective, personalised diabetes care through contemporary DMTAC practice. Participants will gain insights into MTAC services in Malaysia, with a specific focus on DMTAC, and practical strategies to enhance clinical decision-making and patient outcomes.

Through real-world case studies on diabetes therapies and technologies, including insulin therapy, sglt-2 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), participants will apply clinical knowledge to identify medication-related problems and develop practical pharmaceutical care strategies. Take learning beyond the classroom with hands-on sessions on injection techniques, carbohydrate counting, and dietary management, equipping participants with practical skills and patient education strategies that can be applied immediately in clinical practice.

Learn. Practise. Transform.
Join us to elevate your DMTAC practice, sharpen your clinical skills, and maximise the impact of pharmacist-led diabetes care.

Workshop 3
Frontline Toxicology and Medication Safety: From Pharmaceutical Poisoning and Overdoses to Risk Recognition to Digital Decision Support
by National Poison Centre

Are you equipped to spot hidden drug toxicities and navigate complex poisoning cases in your daily pharmacy practice? Hosted by the Drug & Poison Information Service (DPIS) at the National Poison Centre (Pusat Racun Negara), this interactive pre-conference workshop transforms clinical toxicology into practical, frontline strategies for Malaysian pharmacists.

From identifying subtle cumulative drug toxicity in patients to dismantling outdated rules around acute GI decontamination and leveraging digital toxicoinformatics decision-support tools, this session delivers actionable insights directly from National Poison Centre specialists. Elevate your patient counselling, prevent iatrogenic harm, and gain the clinical confidence needed to handle acute and chronic toxicological scenarios in community and retail settings. Join us to refine your risk recognition and modernise your approach to medication safety!

Workshop 4
Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis in Pharmacy and Healthcare: From Research Question to Evidence Synthesis
by Discipline of Social and Administrative Pharmacy, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are essential tools for synthesising evidence and informing evidence-based pharmacy and healthcare practice. This interactive, hands-on workshop will guide participants through the key stages of conducting a high-quality systematic review and meta-analysis, from developing a focused research question to interpreting and reporting findings. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a practical understanding of how to plan, conduct, critically appraise, and report a systematic review and meta-analysis in pharmacy and healthcare.

Target audience: Pharmacists, healthcare professionals, postgraduate students, researchers, academics, and clinicians interested in evidence synthesis and evidence-based practice.
